My hesitation is that Gold Tone seems to have a better reputation as a banjo maker, I'm unfamiliar with Morgan Monroe so I'm not sure what the build quality is like. My main draw is that the Morgan Monroe has a Whyte Laydie tone ring, and the Gold Tone has a simple brass hoop. I paid $450 for my GT (case included) so I wouldn't feel bad trading it for the MM. See more ideas about monroe, banjo, hoedown. But looking at the used market, they seem to be about the same. Buying new, the Gold Tone is a higher priced banjo than the Morgan Monroe. I was thinking of offering a trade to the guy, straight up. He's asking $450 (case included), which seems like a fair price from what I can tell.
